Re evaluating my previous branding, I have decided to alter this.
I believe this brand to mis represent me:
- The use of Akzidenz Grotesk suggests a keen formal, commercial, modernist approach.
- 'K /' portrays me as an anonymous, formal studio; this is not my ambition, I do not intend to work freelance therefore the need of a studio branding is not necessary.
- The SEO of K / was difficult to optimise, as '/' cannot be used in URL's and 'K/' is commonly used in a technical application.
- I believe my practice to be more expressive, experimental and informal to represented by 'K/'
My new branding
My intention with my rebrand was to convey what I currently believe my practice is:
- Expressive
- Contemporary
- A rejection of preconceived ideas of 'good design'
I wanted to use the name 'Kieran Edward Walsh', this would make for an easier SEO as well as portraying a sense of honesty / Openness with use of a middle name.
In relation to the use of colour, it was hard to define a colour that portrayed my practice exclusively however the colour pink seemed to hold the most affiliated connotations I wished to portray:
- A bold colour to express an alternative approach to design
- Playing with preconceived ideas of pink; Pink has always been a provocative colour in relation to its connotations, commonly associated with feminine qualities, it is the act of skewing pre conceived ideas that I would like to communicate, It is a reflection of my practice; skewing pre conceived ideas of good design.
- I have never come across a pink business card, I think I would remember if I had.
- I think the Arts, Culture and Fashion sector I want to be involved in would appreciate this use of pink especially, as this sector is more 'open minded' than I believe other sectors to be.
