Presentation

It has been 233 days since the first day on the course.

I’d like to start by showing some of my work I am the proudest of and illustrate the growth I have experienced on the course.

Beginning with my response to the research brief in a previous module, I created a coffee guide, this linked a personal interest of mine alongside graphic design. This was the first time I have my involved my opinion so strongly within my own work.

Secret 7, this was my first real life brief. I enjoyed experimenting with new materials, methods of creative thinking and designing to please. I was happy to find my design was chosen to be in the exhibition; this was the first time my work has really been shown in the real world.

Another example of my work in the real world is my submission to Yoke’s dialogue brief. My simple response to the brief of dialogue was the phrase ‘I love you’ in Binary, a reflection on the relationship between technology and emotion.

My design was paired with the work of German designer Marcel Hausler, as well as being one of the larger prints; it also had a cheeky appearance on a creative review tweet but of course all the credit goes to great work of Yoke.

Here are three more examples of some of this year’s work I am happy with.

My favorite brief this year has been the recent speaking from experience.

The publication I created seems to be a round up of all of the years’ highlights.

A quote taken from the PPP Manifesto task:

‘To stay immersed within design as a whole.’

25 out of the 27 sources of inspiration featured were unknown to me at the beginning of the year.

I began to talk to other designers outside of the LCA realm; including designers from Germany and Singapore.

I’d also like to mention a change of focus in terms of my own inspiration since the beginning of the year.

Starting the course I was set on Modernist graphic design principles as the truth, I didn’t question them and was set on creating reflections of my favorite designers work such as Antonio Carusone and Vignelli.

I created this typeface in reflection to Herbert Bayer’s universal.

It has been a conscious decision and my criticisms of the limitations and similarity of Modernist work that has almost repelled me into a focus of experimentation, technology and expression.

Moving forward, I would like to take my time on the course to experiment greatly with materials, techniques and processes.

Partake in my own direction in regards to the work I like as well as practicing and becoming better at designing to please.
