I believe it best to include a pre
evaluation of my work and attitude towards PPP. Looking back over my work in
Level 04, I am disappointed with the little amount of work and apparent effort
I put into the year.
I do declare that my consciousness of being
a designer and a brand myself last year was far from apparent, possibly due to
the little confidence I had in my work and/or my understanding of a
professional working environment. The development as a whole is incredibly
evident now; my interests, approach, motivation and commitment have all
changed.
My interests in design have changed;
previously I had been unaware of the commercial aspects of design, viewing
design as an art instead of realizing a purpose or agenda behind the work, this
explains my fondness of Modernism; I enjoyed the aesthetic however the theory
and approach to design many Modernists had disheartens me, I don’t believe
design should be so objective and without emotion.
After my longer exposure to design, as well
as lectures, meetings and experiences regarding design, my approach has
changed;
Design is a tool, not
to be fetishized, design will change; the methods, materials and approaches. Use
it to do what you want, say what you want, go where you want and get paid for
enjoying it.
This year, I believe my confidence and
understanding of a working environment has developed greatly, I am keener to
begin to develop myself as a designer, creating a brand, networking alongside
creating a manifesto/ process unique to myself.
I am excited to enter an industry I have
only seen from the outside for the past 5 years, I am excited to develop myself
as a designer, meet the people who will challenge/push/inspire me (Creative or
not), let the industry take me wherever I want to go while being in a position to
express my personal interests.
